Posted on Tuesday, April 23, 2024

As Vanta’s Director, US Government Strategy and Affairs, you will own, end-to-end, the strategy and execution of Vanta’s initial effort in working with the US Federal government.

Who is Vanta? At Vanta, our mission is to secure the internet and protect consumer data. We believe that security should be monitored and verified continuously, and we empower companies to practice better security and prove it with ease. Vanta has a kind and talented team, and while some have prior security experience, many have been successful at Vanta without it.

In this role, you’ll both engage with Vanta’s internal teams on developing and implementing a business strategy tied to the US Federal government, and engage on the ground in DC with relevant US Federal stakeholders in driving Vanta’s nonpartisan, and non-lobbying-oriented, regulatory agenda tied to that strategy (Vanta won’t be lobbying, but we will be educating and engaging). In other words, you will embody the rare combination of business acumen and analytical skills, plus a strong US Federal government network and the keen ability to build more of a network relevant to Vanta’s US Federal government strategy.

Remote but must be located in the DC Metro area.

What you’ll do as a Director, US Government Strategy & Affairs at Vanta:

  • Set up and maintain a system that regularly updates Vanta’s internal stakeholders on important upcoming regulatory and legislative updates from the US Federal government and the US states

  • Lead the selection of Vanta’s initial US Federal government strategy and engagement target -in particular, working with priority federal agencies or branches of government to drive the company’s business priorities

  • Engage with Vanta’s Product and Go-To-Market teams on modeling and executing against the aforementioned strategy, including by influencing what products are built and how the go-to-market for those products should be optimized for US Federal government interactions

  • Engage with key stakeholders in Washington DC and expand Vanta’s network of US Federal government contacts - particularly in pursuit of the strategy you’ve helped us select

  • Over time, help us determine how to invest further in our US government strategy and affairs function

How to be successful in this role:

  • Have meaningful (5+ years) prior experience and contacts with the US Federal government, in at least one key area or agency, e.g., the Department of Defense, US Congress, SEC, etc.

  • Have a demonstrated ability to expand your and your employer’s network across various aspects of the US Federal government in a non-partisan manner/across different Administrations

  • Have strong business and analytical skills, preferably demonstrated through time working in consulting or another business role

  • Have a strong educational background, preferably with a relevant advanced degree

  • Nice-to-haves:

    • Established participant in trade associations, or direct experience working directly with trade associations as a member of government

    • Experience and a relevant network in cybersecurity

What you can expect as a Vantan:

  • Industry-Competitive Salary and Equity

  • 100% covered Medical, Dental, and Vision Benefits with Dependents Coverage

  • 16 Weeks Fully Paid Parental Leave for All New Parents (Moms, Dads, Adoptive, Foster)

About Vanta

We started in 2018, in the wake of several high-profile data breaches. Online security was only becoming more important, but we knew firsthand how hard it could be for fast-growing companies to invest the time and manpower it takes to build a solid security foundation. Vanta was inspired by a vision to restore trust in internet businesses by enabling companies to improve and prove their security. From our early days automating security monitoring for compliance standards like SOC 2, HIPAA and ISO 27001 to creating the world's leading Trust Management Platform, our vision remains unchanged.

Now more than ever, making security continuous—not just a point-in-time check— is essential. Thousands of companies rely on Vanta to build, maintain and demonstrate their trust— all in a way that's real-time and transparent.
