About South Park Commons

South Park Commons (SPC) is a community of technical builders, tinkerers, and domain experts that challenge you, encourage you, and help you build and validate your ideas. We believe good ideas very rarely come about in isolation. We are a safe zone that promotes judgement-free exploration and development of new ideas.

For technologists at an "in-between" stage in their career, SPC is the best place to be.

The Head of Operations Role

SPC is a community for open exploration, a process that relies on exposing our members to new ideas, people, and challenges. This role is an opportunity to facilitate serendipity and connection across a community of talented people.

The Head of Operations is the person who keeps the Commons buzzing, by enabling collaboration, creation, and productivity among our members. This person discovers and promotes new ways to support the community's work.

You will own all aspects of Operations for South Park Commons. First and foremost, you’ll establish a connection with every new cohort of SPC members and new companies in the fund's portfolio. Second, you will build the tooling, documentation, and resources needed to keep this network functioning. You will also manage community leaders, staff members in operating roles, and interns.

SPC is a member-led community, so we’re constantly evolving based on our members’ ideas. Your role will grow accordingly. As we explore new formats and programs for members, you’ll have the mandate to design and implement them, evaluate our experiments, and make recommendations for pivots or new directions. In other words, be bold, innovative, and even sometimes unorthodox in your approach.

You will:

Set strategy - Align on quarterly goals for Community, programming, and founder support - Develop roadmap and budget for community engagement, including for events, tooling, and space Execute - Drive completion of core processes in our member lifecycle, with great attention to detail, while also being able to step back and think from first principles about how to streamline tasks. - Build, evaluate and promote tooling for the community (e.g., enterprise software, social media solutions) and ensure documentation of key processes. Create new ways for community members to participate in setting and documenting processes. - Experiment with non-traditional formats for engaging members, including events, trainings or workshops, and remote experiences. - Develop metrics and evaluation frameworks to track our operational performance in domains as diverse as recruiting and membership, communications, engagement, inclusion, and events management. Refine - Analyze what’s working for our members, and what’s not. We’re constantly striving to improve.

Who you are

  • You enjoy wearing many hats. This opportunity covers a lot of surface area: process, tooling, analytics, communications, management, etc. You have curiosity and enthusiasm for all of these activities, even if you have direct work experience in only some of them
  • You have worked in an operations or execution-oriented role for 2-5 years, probably in the tech space
  • You are biased towards action
  • You are an inclusive leader and are able to recruit others to work with you
  • You are detail-oriented and take obsessive responsibility for getting things done right.
