About the role
Muon is looking for a Software Engineer with Embedded Linux specialization to join our satellite and sensors development team. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated versatile software developer with significant previous experience developing robust linux-based embedded devices or appliances.
Responsibilities
Be part of the team that defines Muon’s satellite architecture
Translate concepts and requirements into design
Bring up and support the linux software environment that runs in our satellite flight systems (MuCore) using ARM Cortex-A CPUs.
Build and maintain clean base embedded linux images
Write application platform and driver functionality in our flight software environment and teach others how to use it
Integrate Muon’s compute and peripheral subsystems together with third-party devices (cameras, reaction wheels, GPS units, etc)
Collaborate with HW team members on the design and bring up of MuCore hardware
Collaborate with SW team members to set flight software architecture, select infrastructure and tools, and communicate with cloud backends.
Participate in developing automated build and test strategies
Qualifications
B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in computer science, electrical engineering, or related field
3+ years experience as a software engineer in a team environment
Strong C/C++ programming, with some practical familiarity of other languages
Comfortable with Linux internals and sysadmin knowledge (configuring a linux system via config files)
Experience creating hardened Linux systems (e.g. embedded appliances, fast boot, tolerant of uncontrolled on/off cycles, etc)
Experience with building and bootloading linux images (e.g. uboot, buildroot, yocto/OpenEmbedded, etc)
Excellent communication and presentation skills

Nice-to-have Skills
Read and understand HW datasheets
Knowledge of industry-standard data formats and schemas (ProtoBuf, YAML, JSON, etc)
Familiarity integrating and controlling external HW devices from Linux (e.g. using UART/SPI/I2C/CAN communication buses, drivers, etc)
Experience with one or more of: bare-metal embedded, FPGA, HW design, RF communication systems, cloud/server infrastructure, network architecture.
End-to-end development from product concept to delivery to customer/market.

At Muon Space salary is only part of our total compensation package. In addition to salary, Muon Space provides equity compensation as well as benefits including medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401k retirement plan, life insurance, and an employee development program.
The salary range for this role is $95K and $190K and will depend on a candidate's skills, qualifications, and experience as determined during the interview process.
